Bagolie Friedman Injury Lawyers are investigating reports that certain Allergan BIOCELL© breast implants may cause anaplastic large cell lymphoma (“BIA-ALCL”), a cancer of the immune system.
The FDA sought a worldwide recall of BIOCELL© implants in July 2019.
Bagolie Friedman Injury Lawyers are investigating Allergan Biocell® Textured Breast Implants and claims. Allergan Biocell® implants are saline-filled and silicone-filled textured breast implants that have been recalled due concerns the implants may cause breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). BIA-ALCL is not breast cancer – it is a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer of the immune system). In most cases, BIA-ALCL is found in the scar tissue and fluid near the implant, but in some cases, it can spread throughout the body. Some of the symptoms of ALCL include persistent swelling or pain near the breast implant.
New lawsuit cases have emerged after a recall of the Allergan Biocell breast implant was started in July 2019, responding to FDA findings that nearly all cases of BIA-ALCL have been linked to this one type of device.
There have been concerns over the past few years about the link between textured breast implants and cancer that may develop in the surrounding tissue of certain types of breast implants.
Over the summer, the FDA released data that indicates at least 573 known cases of breast implant ALCL have been diagnosed worldwide, which included at least 33 deaths. Of those cases, 481 have been linked to breast implants sold by Allergan. which have been involved in at least 12 of the 13 deaths where the manufacturer of the breast implant was known.
An increase in the numbe of lawsuits filed against Allergan over the breast implants, has been seen since the recall. Each making similar allegations that the textured design was unreasonably dangerous and defective.
Breast Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL, is a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Often it is found in the scar tissue surrounding the implant. If not treated quickly, it can be serious and lead to death. Symptoms that have been reportedly associated with BIA-ALCL include:
- Persistent swelling or pain in the area of the implant.
- Breast lump or lumps.
- Fluid buildup.
- Hardening of or mass around the implants.
If any of these symptoms or other complications with your implants are affecting you, contact your doctor to discuss your condition.
